Problem

The Customer, in order to improve the service in Gas distribution on some sections of pipeline, needed to have some existing manual valves automated. Due to the large extension of the pipeline, it was impossible for the Customer to install Air compressors or Electrical cabinet on site.

Solution

Trutorq Italia, in order to fulfil Customer’s needs, supplied Pneumatic Scotch Yoke actuators that could be feed with pressurized Natural Gas taken from the pipeline itself.

The actuators were equipped with a Pressure reduction system set at a minimum pressure value in order to restrain the volume of Gas used at this scope. Further to this, being electrical cabinet not available on site, the actuators will be equipped on site with dedicated solar panels to provide power supply (24VDC) to the solenoid valves for actuators remote control.

The actuators are designed to be Fail Open to ensure Gas supply to all the users connected to the pipeline even in case of power supply failure.

Due to the fact that the valves were already installed on the pipeline, a technical team from Trutorq Italia performed on-site inspections in the various locations to check space available for actuators installations and measurements for each valve in order to design proper adaptors.

To guarantee safety in case of maintenance, the actuators have been equipped with a manual maneuvering system via an on-board hydraulic pump and an anti-leakage system so that operators can manually close the valves and be sure that they will remain closed until the end of the operation. intervention.
